Live Simply

At St. Margaret Mary School we are working towards our Live Simply Award.

The LiveSimply Award, coordinated by Cafod, is presented to schools who demonstrate they are living simply, living sustainably, and living in solidarity with the world’s poorest communities.

Cafod has a vision for the future. A world without poverty. A world where people have enough food to eat and clean water to drink and a safe home to live in. A world where all children can go to school, and anyone who is sick can see a doctor. Our school is joining Cafod to try to create this kind of world, through the LiveSimply award.

As a community we are going to try our best to:

  • Live simply
  • Live sustainably
  • Live in solidarity

Living Simply means living like Jesus. Spending quiet time in nature or in prayer. Being grateful for all we have instead of always wanting more. Spending time in nature appreciating God’s beautiful creation and spending quality time with other people.

Living Sustainably means looking after our world and remembering it is for everyone.

Living in Solidarity means seeing everyone in the world as part of one big family. We need to work together to make sure that all our brothers and sisters have what they need to flourish.

During our LiveSimply journey, we will be taking faith inspired actions that support our school and local communities and our global sisters and brothers too. As a school we have signed up for this award this year and will work hard to ensure we have some creative ideas to show how we have been living in these ways.

What can you do to help?

There are lots of things that you as families can do to support our LiveSimply award:

  • Walk or cycle to church or school.
  • Support Fairtrade.
  • Donate to a local food bank.
  • Take part in 'clean up' actions in the local area.
  • Reduce, reuse and recycle plastic.
